Leaning on a Friend - Sound of Music

Leaning on a Friend

This is the painting that is in the Pasticcio Quartz  Issue 10.  I wanted to wait a while to have it on my blog. This is a very special painting to me. Right now it is a "Hello Bluebird" in West Reading.
Yesterday I was watching the Sound of Music Reunion on Oprah and I was in such an emotional state. It brought so many memories back to me through the years.  It was a movie that when I was a child my entire family went to the movies (Even my dad) and we saw this glorious movie and then we went to a special restaurant and I had a drink called a Shirley Temple with an Umbrella in it.  We of course bought the soundtrack and we listened to it all the time in our house. My sister Jamie played the piano and these songs would of course be some of the pieces she would play.  I would put the album on our little green and white record player and fall asleep to it. When I was in high school we had to sing a solo with Mr. Lechner the music teacher and Sound of Music were the songs I sang. Then at least once a year my sisters and Nelly and Keely would watch and sing the entire movie. My girlfriends always said you have to experience watching the Sound of Music with the Lippincott Girls because we not only sang but acted it out!
It is a movie that has some how changed my life in so many ways. The message of the movie is so wonderful.  Well anyway what I am getting to is the funny thing I was thinking that the first important publishing of my work has Ironically been in a publication that one of the Sound of Music children publishes. Brigita! (Angela Cartwright) She was my favorite Von Trapp child. I love Angela Cartwright and it is funny how the she has made one of my dreams come true!
Isn't life funny!
I will forever love the Sound of Music!
I can't imagine that someone has not seen it. But if you haven't you should.
I grew up with it. It has touched my life in so many ways.

Some where in my youth or childhood I must have done something good.
I love that song!!!
You have to see it!
Make it a family tradition if you haven't yet!

These are painted plastic pumkins that you get at any store. You have to gesso them maybe 2 times before you paint on them. Then you paint away. I got this from a blog tutorial from Alisa Burke. It is the the October 13, 2009 post. So go to her blog at http://alisaburke.blogspot.com/. She is a great craftsman. She has so many ideas. You will just love her! She inspires me! She will inspire you too!

Happy Birthday Steve!!!!

Last night I had a birthday party for my husband. He knew he was going to have a party but he did not know that I was inviting a bunch of his old school mates from days gone by. I told everyone else to come at 7:00 and then I had called Bell to have her round up the troops. Well I will tell you that is was great. Worked out fantastic. They came trughing through the back yard at around 8:30. And he face was priceless. At first he looked like he was confused. And then all of a sudden he realized what was happening. To follow these are the pictures of the reunion. He was so trilled. And I finally kept a secret from him! I did good.

This is unsuspecting Steve with the guys in the backyard at the fireplace.
Here comes Griz!!!

Steve said it was like being in a dream!

He couldn't believe it!

Their parents are so proud of all these men. They all turned out pretty good considering what they were like in the the 70's. They are all successful business men.
I am so mad at myself that I did not get more pictures but I was trying to take pictures and quest kept arriving. And food had to be put out. There were people in every room. So when the party really started I was to busy to take pictures. I can only hope my sisters got some good ones
These guys came from all over the place and stayed in hotel. Except Griz he stayed at our house on the couch. As usual.

Thank you Dan, Griz, Jerry, Fred, Mitch and Bell for making Steve's 50th so special!!!!
And all our fabulous other friends and Families that are in our life .
The ones that are there for Steve and I . What a great group of people that we surround ourselves with.  We Love You All!
This was some of the regular quest. Mostly family watching the Phillies game inside. What a bummer!

My husbands friends and golfing buddies Kurt and the one trying to kiss Kurt is my husbands BEST friend and son in law. Silly guys.

Strangers on a Train Trailer

Movie Night
I know I am late but I was watching the Phillie's. I am a little sad tonight but what can you say it all comes down to which team is the hungriest.
But anyway enough of that.
Strangers on a Train. What a great movie. Of course it is directed by Alfred Hithcock one of the greatest directors ever. And you have Farley Granger (a good looker if I might say so myself). You have to see it yourself if you want to know about the twists. Nothing like a old suspense movie.

Halloween Invitation

Friends of ours have a Halloween party every year and every year they have some fun way to invite people. I thought this was great. They are voodoo dolls. It is me with the wild hair and paint brush in my hand and Steve with his hammer and tool belt. How cute is that?? I love it.

Of coarse I blacked  out there address for there own protection. They would be wondering where all the people came from. "Oh yes Heather is giving out there address to everyone on her blog."

Me and Steve as voodo dolls.

CATCH YOUR OWN STAR

Look to the sky and catch a star

I think what I mean by this is that you have to find your own star and catch it. For so many years I lived for someone else's dream not my own.  You have to catch the stars you have to make your dreams come true. You can't just sit there and wait for IT(Whatever that may be) to happen to you. You have to make it happen.  Be your own creator of your life. Ask the Universe for what you want. And if you believe you will have it!
So Look to the sky and catch YOUR star. No one else's but yours. Don't live for someone else's dreams. Live for your own dream.

You, My Love - Frank Sinatra and Doris Day

Movie Night!
Ok, everyone who knows me knows that I am a hugh fan of Frank Sinatra(him and Eddie Vedder, go figure, very diverse) ! I have had a long love affair with him. (In my mind) Ahhh that voice just gets to me. A lot of people do not know that I wanted to beeeee Doris Day. Gorgeous Lady. So classy. And she had the greatest butt. Check it out sometime. These are the only movies that my mother ever took me too. We would take the bus into town together. The last Doris Day movie I saw with my mother was "The Glass Bottom Boat"I think she also wanted to be Doris Day. (She was pretty close). I just adore this movie. I mean it is no dramatic earth shattering movie. It was just simple love story with great music. You got get it and see it.

In A Dream - a Documentary about Isaiah Zagar

I know I was going to post old movies on movie night but tonight I decided to do something different. This Documentary is Isiah Zagar done by his son Jeremiah. He is a genius or is he insane. Or a little bit of both. All I know is that I have seen these buildings. And was always intrigued by them. It is great to see what is behind this art.
It is about a long marriage. I think I have a theme going on here. Maybe the Universe is telling me something. I am coming up to my 23rd wedding anniversary. I feel a little reflective. Anyway watch this movie. It is a little raw but that is what I like about it.
 Fantastic!

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Well well well what do we have here. We have a mess. Yes sometimes I make a mess. I decided I did not like it so much. So I picked it apart and I will start all over again. And it will be on top of this mess.  Thats what is so great about mixed media. Even a mess can turn into something beautiful. You know what is funny years ago I would have thrown this out but now I am going to make something beautiful out of it.  You'll see.  It is just a wonder how I have changed as an artist thru the years. It is constant growth.
It is all about the journey.  See you tomorrow with movie night!!!!

My Girls are leaving me!

My girls are leaving me. I just finished the frames. It is time to let them go into the Universe and make someone else happy. I hope they find a good home. There new home (until they are adopted) is "Hello Bluebird Boutique and Gallery, 609 Penn Ave,  West Reading, PA 19611. Wonderful shop.   I know Alex will take care of them until they find there new homes.  Don't forget to visit them if you are in the area. I will also have prints there.

Bye Bye Girls!!!!!!!

Sunday, October 3, 2010

I told you I would be doing some more Halloween paintings. I have been so busy with other things in the works. How exciting.  Anyway, this will probably be my last for a while. It took me a while to complete.  I would do a little here a little there. My sisters kept on coming up stairs in my studio to see if I had done anymore work on this . I love that they get so excited to see what I am up to. So I decided that I better get cracken because Halloween is right around the corner. Also Steve is turning 50 this year on Oct 24. So we are having a bash. So this will go nicely on my mantle in the diningroom.  Oh how I love Halloween!!! I tried to make them look a little ghostly.  I say it is a self portrait of me and Steve. Except I don't have green eyes and Steve doesn't have a mustache and my hair is not grey(thank you hairdresser) So really it doesn't look like me and Steve at all. Oh well.
