Blossoming Bud

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom
~Anais Nin~

I started showing my work in my 40's.  Kind of late for an artist. That is how insecure I was.  But I knew I had to let it out.  People would say to me why didn't you tell us that you were an artist?? I can't tell you why I was so afraid.  Insecurities really got to me when I was younger. I never felt good enough.  But you know when you get older (at least I did) I didn't care. I had to do what I had to do. Time was ticking and I knew if I didn't let the world into my secret I would have withered away with a nothingness life.

I would never bloom.

I needed to bloom.

I yearned to bloom.

So I let out my passion.

Life changed for me!

I want to tell you what really helped me was this online community.
I would just show enough and then see if there was a reaction.
The more reaction I got the more confidence I got.
The Internet is a wonderful thing if you use it.
It changed my life. I don't know if I would have shown my work if I didn't have it to hide behind.

I am a very shy person. ((I know people that know me want to laugh at that. Because I do tend to appear like I am very confident and secure. What I can do is make people laugh. Always been a thing I could do. I started with my parents. I was the youngest. I think I learned at an early age to get some attention you got to make them laugh!)) Anyway sorry about that I went off the subject.  I am a very shy person. Funny thing is I was in acting when I was in high school.  But now I can not stand up in front of people and speak because I would faint.  No kidding! When I went back to school later.  I almost fainted in front of a classroom of people when the teacher called me up in front of the class and said " Heather you come up and show the class how to do it, She knew I could do it but as soon as I looked and all 30 of those other students where looking at me I CHOKED!! I blubbered some kind of nonsense. And my teacher looked at me scratching  her head, like what was that???

Anyway what I am trying to say is if you are shy the Internet is the perfect place to start showing your work.

I would not have blossomed into what I am today. Which is pretty Damn Good!!

So show your stuff!!!!
Let it goooooo.
Show the world what you got!!
The majority of people are really kind.
And if you run into some mean people, Forget about it. They have there own issues that have nothing to do with you!!

Just do it.

Don't be the bud.

Bloom!!

Oh I love your post and your work. Well done! Your work is the best! By the way Grandma Moses at the age of 70 or so in the 1930's started painting. So.....fret not. Very nice work. Take care.

And you really did blossom! I found this a most interesting post, and I agree with everything you say. Your work is beautiful, and I too have found that this wonderful world of artist bloggers is so supportive and helpful.

wonderful positivity and message in your post, a joy to read. I joined PPF when first started to draw and paint in my 60's, yep a very late starter, but I had nothing to lose and everything to gain from the wonderful artists who were brilliantly supportive. Loving your latest projects. Happy PPF, Annette x

Well most of the artists are not very sure of ourselves, way are artists because we are always researching and learning, this is a good place to see all kinds of work and discover how they work in fillies over the world. Thanks ARTIST.

What an inspirational bit of writing. I know so many women who never show their talent until well into their 40's and 50's because they feel a bit insecure! After all we are putting our souls out on the page! I too always would make people laugh....I didn't have a clue I could draw a line until I was 47....I am a very late bloomer. I appear like a confident person....but in actuality I can be painfully shy.... although I appear to be an extrovert when I take the test I am an introvert!! Excellent post...glad you are blooming with your gorgeous art and self!! Beautiful read....so glad you bare your soul on here!!
I bet there are more of us exactly the same on ppf than we know!!

Big hugs and happy V day!

I absolutely relate to your post - I didn't start to draw until a couple years ago and I am 47 now. I've always been crafty and never hesitated to gift people with things that I made. However, when you craft all the things you make look the same as the other and as the pattern you've worked from, when you draw there are all sorts of things that come out - some expected but oftentimes many unexpected things. Also there are so many opinions about who should do art. My brother once said, "I know some real artists, you know." It confused me and hurt my feelings. If someone cooked a plate of food for you, you'd never state, "I know some real chefs, you know."
Anyhoo - like you, I've found the internet community to be amazingly supportive. Nobody leaves a comment unless they want to - and the negativity isn't there.
Kudos to you and your wonderful art!! Thanks for sharing!

Great post - I can be very shy - but I am also an extrovert. I didn't really show any of my work till I was (gasp) 60!!! I still struggle with insecurity - among the things that keep me going is that I need to create just to breathe freely. Your WIP is gorgeous!

Heather, it takes a great deal of courage and character to share your humanity with the world. It does others a world of good to know that they are not alone. Your paintings bear your own unique style, and I'm glad you have decided to put them out there.

GREAT post! I too started making art a big later, I too was nervous about sharing it and consider myself a shy person as well. But no more worrying and holding back- I'm putting myself and my art out into the world in 2014!!

Your works are absolutely gorgeous. I'm so happy that you have now decided to share them. Only today I had the same thought that I'm more comfortable in the blogging world than with real people around me-:)
Happy to find your amazing art...
